We finally got around to a winter art project we’ve been dying have a go at! On a recent trip to the mountains, we decided to give snow painting a try.

The 9-year-old’s first idea was a snow rainbow…

Followed by plans to color her entire snowball fort pink… along with the creation of several pink snow angels.

Not to be outdone, the 5-year-old attempted to color his fort green but soon gave up and began coloring everyone’s footprints green instead.

The only supplies really needed for this project are spray bottles, food coloring and water.

You could use empty washed out/recycled spray bottles if you have them, or find some inexpensive ones at the dollar store like we did.

Literally hours of colorful fun!

What I saw: A box needing to be flattened and stuffed in the recycling bin.

What He saw: A new robot friend… Zorg.

Which just goes to show: Sometimes 5-year-olds and sharpie markers can make for a very happy combination!

(Well… at least with a little parental supervision thrown in.)

So we decided make some snowflake window ornaments.

You know…

In the hopes of luring in a few un-suspecting snowflakes with no place better to go.

Still under-the-weather here, but we decided that we had rallied enough from our most recent bout of illnesses that we wouldn’t have to sit out our planned afternoon at The Nutcracker Ballet.

We came home a little tired but after tucking in a sleepy little ballerina, I’m very glad we went.

She had a magical time! I found this little drawing of Clara from the Nutcracker next to her pillow after she fell asleep this evening.

Hope you’re making some magical memories this Christmas too — even if they’re small.

Sometimes it’s the smallest ones that are truly the most precious.

We’ve had yet another week of illness around here. Seems like we keep catching everything that is going around. The youngest is just getting over his second case of the croup this season and I just came home from an urgent care visit today with pneumonia. I’m hoping that this means we’ll all be squared away by the time Christmas rolls around!

Anyway, today my 5-year-old made me this “Happy Snowflake Get Well Picture” using some Build Your Own Snowman sticker sheets that we purchased at Oriental Trading a couple years back. They also have a Build Your Own Nativity Scene set of stickers that we continue have fun with as well.

And for the record? The Happy-Snowflake-Get-Well-Picture happens to be much more pleasant medicine than the prescriptions I picked up after my urgent care visit!

I remember listening to re-aired radio episodes of The Cinnamon Bear when I was little during the weeks approaching Christmas and being absolutely transfixed by the fantastical adventures of Judy, Jimmy, Paddy O’Cinnamon and the Crazy-Quilt Dragon.

A few years ago, I found CD set of those old-time radio episodes and now my kiddos are getting to enjoy the same tradition.

I’m not quite sure how, but something magical happens when we pop that CD in, turn off the lights, gather around the fireplace and sit listening to the Cinnamon Bear in the firelight.

The kiddos drew Cinnamon Bear portraits this evening while they listened…

And I suddenly feel a little bit younger.
