Insubordination Station

Originally posted on Diary of a Crazed Mommy on January 24, 2006. Nothing makes a parent feel more “parental” then when your child sidles up to your van and looks as if the apocalypse is upon him and says: “Mom, you are going to kill me.” In his defense, he’s probably right, and it warms…

School paperwork, yuck

School has not fully begun until I pull this out of her backpack. My hands are cramping just thinking about filling it out. This school has finally simplified my life a little by having an enrollment printout instead of making us fill out new ones every year. Get this: none of these papers to read…

Please Save Me From The Bloody Marys

I’m ambivalent. I’m so ready for two of my children to go back to school, and not so ready for the other two to return. My son diagnosed with Asperger’s NEEDS to go back to the routine of the classroom. While his school year is not always easy, his emotional well-being is a little steadier…

Just because you THINK you have your I’s dotted and your T’s crossed doesn’t mean you actually DO

Here I go with the Twitter again…. Last week, on Wednesday, I was yet again on Twitter when my phone rang. Now, while that isn’t unusual, the Caller ID was. Spiff’s new high school. Um, okay… So I answer it and begin talking to someone who tells me that we need to discuss Spiff’s schedule….

Get Me Out Of This Box!

I pulled today’s post from my archive for two reasons – the new school year will soon be upon us, and I, like many other parents I know, are still battling the same things we have battled for years. Gearing Up For Next (School) Year

As someone who works in education, these next few weeks are the time that is very bittersweet. We’re glad to see the year come to a close, but we are sad because we will miss the children that we have spent quite a bit of time with. While we will see many of them return…

Welcome to this week’s Try This Tuesday. For details on how to participate, please check out the welcome post. I know it’s almost summer, but if you’re in the middle of preparing an IEP like I am, you are already thinking about back to school time and how your child will adjust to a new…

Try This Tuesday #42: Know Who To Call For (IEP) Help

Welcome to this week’s Try This Tuesday. For details on how to participate, please check out the welcome post. Good News and Bad News I was pleased last Thursday to receive a draft copy of my son’s IEP, a week ahead of the team meeting as I had requested. Yippee!! Less pleasing was the fact…

Whatever it Takes

It has taken me and the Hubby a long time to get where we are today when it comes to the advocacy of our teenaged son. It has been a long, hard road, that both of us never thought we would be going down. It’s a road that has made us better parents, and better…

First day of preschool

A couple of weeks ago, Esther-Faith started preschool.  At a special needs preschool we selected during the IEP process. As with just about everything here at the HennHouse, we photographed it. (She really just thinks the cameras are part of our hands, anyway.) It would be strange NOT to take pictures.   On the way…
