One Little Word

If you were to choose ONE WORD that would sum up your goals and the direction of your heart for 2009, what would that word be?

Daphne Rose Kingma expresses her thoughts on the power of just one word this way:

Language does have the power to change reality. Therefore, treat your words as the mighty instruments they are-to heal, to bring into being, to remove, as if by magic, the terrible violations of childhood, to nurture, to cherish, to bless, to forgive-to create from the whole cloth of your soul, true love.

In our family we've hung on dearly to: BELIEVE.

In fact, you'll find this one word proclaiming it's power in many places of my home.

It's one word that my heart simply couldn't possibly let go of.

But, if for 2009 I were to choose a companion word to join it, what would it be?

After trying out many words, savoring their potential, I've finally settled on Create

As in Create…a simpler home, more family nights, more memories and laughter, magic from the little things.

What about YOU? What one word would sum up the hopes and dreams within your heart for 2009?

Share your word with me in the comments section below.

(Woohoo, everybody's asleep today. I'm the first commenter on 3 blogs.)

The bouncing word 'Believe' is my screensaver, and has been for years.

Create looks to be an excellent companion for me, too.

Thanks, Tammy!

Lisa @ 8:46 pm

I like Create..love Believe..

for us..I think the word would be

PATIENCE

Trish @ 10:38 pm

I may have to think about this a bit more before I commit. The first word that came to mind was family, but I think HOME would be more accurate. With all the different directions my family is pulled in, I want our home to be a place to retreat and connect.

Relax is the word for my family. We sometimes get caught up in the moments and all the things we have do we forget to slow down and relax. We have even went so far as Saturdays are a day we spend at home, hanging out, and enjoying being together just the three of us.

gail @ 3:02 am

i have chosen a different word for the last 6 years. its a great thing. this year i happend upon ali's site that you link to, and love her idea of doing something visual to commemorate your word. i like your board with your word believe on it.

for me this years word is contentment. i really need to embrace contentment in my life, in this season of my life. with myself, my family and our living situation.

bee @ 11:47 am

Simplify!

Olivia @ 11:50 am

For our family (or specifically me) it is

DISCIPLINE
or
CONSISTENCY

They are both so simple, but so hard to achieve. They go hand in hand!

Robin Sampson @ 11:52 am

Relationship! Focusing on a relationship with God instead of religion.

Love, family, graditude, and health would be in the top ten.

Leah @ 11:55 am

I think my word for 2009 would have to be "organize" because my life and my home are in need of some serious organization! I have many goals this year, but most of them come down to being organized enough to get things done efficiently.

Laurie/Mobile Mommy @ 11:58 am

So many great possibilities! I think for this year my word will be

ENERGY

I've spent the last year feeling tired and drained far too often (I don't do well on the broken sleep of baby's first year!) So this year I'm going to focus on finding the energy to really enjoy my life, my work, my kids, and my husband!!

Jerri Ann @ 1:19 pm

I am not sure if you are familiar with the comedian guy who uses this phrase especially since I can't even remember his name right now but my one word for the upcoming year….2009…one word…..is…….

getterdone (or in more than one word get it done)

Ecki @ 2:41 pm

My word of the year is BALANCE.

Balancing my expectations with reality.

Balancing dreaming with doing.

Balancing being "special needs mom" with being mom.

Balancing being mom with being wife with being ME.

Balancing a clean house with Facebook time (LOL!)

Sara @ 3:58 pm

This might sound overused since it's been a political theme for the past year but as it did for our new president it works for us too:

HOPE

as in: this moment/day/week is bad but I have HOPE the next will be better; I may be feeling discouraged now but I have HOPE that I will find courage soon; I may find myself at the end of my rope, but I have HOPE that I can tie a knot and add another length…

Here's HOPING you have a wonderful year!

Casey @ 4:47 pm

Intentional

Christine @ 7:52 pm

I liked this post so much that I had to think about it before coming back and commiting to a word…..but I have it!

Possibility!

Because of course they are endless and sky high…and through God all things are possible. Thanks for the one word challenge, it was just what I needed today

Spring @ forever spring @ 10:12 pm

My word would be healing, because my newest daughter is just beginning to heal, which means our family can begin to heal.

2009 will be a healing year for us.

[...] idea! So many possibilities immediately come to mind, but how do you pick just one? Then Tammy at 5 Minutes for Special Needs asked this question: If you were to choose ONE WORD that would sum up your goals and the direction [...]
