For the last several months, there has been a routine in our household. Every night after dinner, Daddy and Michael sit down together to watch a couple of videos, usually shows that my husband likes and wants to introduce to his son. The choices range from Batman and the Justice League to Popeye and the Little Rascals, with a little Powerpuff Girls thrown in for good measure.
This week, the after-dinner ritual has become a family affair with the airing of several Christmas shows on TV. So far, we have seen four animated specials:
- Shrek the Halls
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
- Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Last night, we had a church commitment, so Michael had playtime with some other children instead, but tonight we will be settling back in to watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the feature film with Jim Carrey).
Thus begins a family tradition that I am sure will continue for years to come, and I’m sure there will be many more. What are your favorite holiday traditions?

Hey Moms, Running a household can be tougher than running a business, so why not use that experience to get an online MBA from Marylhurst University in the comfort of your own home?

Love your new tradition, Trish
Starting new ones and keeping old ones — that’s my favorite part of this time of year.
One of our favorites is curling up with hot cocoa (um… rice milk cocoa…
) and listening to recordings of the old Cinnamon Bear radio program before bed.
One of our traditions has always been spending an entire day baking Christmas cookies…and lots of them. Sometimes we end up with 8 or 10 different kinds, and when we are all done, everyone is so sick of cookies, no one wants to eat them.
So this year, although we will still spend a day baking cookies, there will not be as many.
I love your tradition of watching the cartoons, my kids enjoy watching them as well.
We love all those Christmas movies too, and several of our actitivities on our activity advent calendar call for watching them
What a great family tradition…
My kiddos love to bake Christmas cookies too!
I also love getting the Christmas videos out this time of the year!
we have been watching those christmas specials on tv too. love it!
one of the other things we do is some evening right before Christmas we load up in the car, put on the christmas carols and drive around looking for houses with lights and decorations.
Lots of great ideas here – I bet Michael would really enjoy driving around looking at lights. When he got off the van tonight, he took me down the whole block looking at the houses that are decorated before I convinced him it was too cold to stay outside.
Hugs to you and an amazingly beautiful little boy. Wow! You are blessed.
Merry Christmas
