Magic Marker Monday — Vocabulary Meets Art

"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."
~Pablo Picasso
Welcome to Magic Marker Monday! If you haven't heard about Magic Marker Monday yet, click here and then hurry right back…

As part of her homeschool curriculum, Jacqui's been working her way through a vocabulary workbook. We like this book really well because it reinforces the learning experience so well — she writes the new word, tells me the definition in her own words, uses it in a sentence of her own creation, and then draws a picture representing the word. It's usually pretty entertaining for her — and sometimes (like last week) it is entertaining for me as well.
Believe it or not, this started out as a very convincing drawing of a schooner by a 6-year-old. Then things took an odd turn.
"AWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!"
Jacqui's features twisted up in frustration. She grabbed a black marker and began scribbling furiously over her drawing.
"Would you like to start over with a new sheet of paper?"
She grinned at me, wrote her name on the top of her paper and handed it over. "Nope. I'm done."
"What happened to your schooner?"
"I jess don't draw schooners so very well mom. So dat's a schooner inna dark. You jess can't see it 'cause it's night-time where da shooner is. Dair's da water. See?"
A schooner in the dark.
Not sure what I'm going to do if the "snowstorm" train of logic occurs to her when it comes to the rest of her schoolwork…

LOL. Hey it is a schooner in the dark! Is that her handwriting on the definition or yours? I don't have a Magic Marker Monday post today, but came over to enjoy yours.
