Parker Loves Rachel……..A Giveaway!
Parker turns four this month.
Yeah. He's a little short for his age.
But his heart is huge.
And he's already in the throws of his very first crush.
With an older woman. A much older woman.
And she's taller too.
She's teaching him how to express himself.
Through sign.
Oh, yea. This woman has Parker wrapped around her little finger.
Thanks, Rachel. Because of you and Signing Time, my son has a voice.
Signing Time is a labor of love, born out of the desire for one mother to create a community that could communicate with her deaf daughter. Two Little Hands Productions, co-founded by sisters Rachel Coleman and Emilie Brown, is the company that produces and distributes the Signing Time product line.
You can read more of their inspiring story here.
Why teach a baby how to sign?
Because babies crawl before they walk, and sign before they talk!
When a baby waves "bye-bye" or points at what she wants, she is signing! It is natural for babies to communicate with signs. Baby Signing Time gives babies the signs they need to express their needs and wants. Clever songs, playful animation and adorable babies make learning signs fun and easy.
Did you know that Scientific studies suggest that "typical" children who learn to sign:
* have higher IQ scores
* are better adjusted
* read at an earlier age
The music. The animation. (Who doesn't love Hopkins?) The songs. The other kids just like you, showing you how to sign everyday events like playtime, getting dressed, going places, manners and so much more.
These are just some of the reasons that have made Signing Time not only Parker's favorite videos, but a family favorite as well.
Oh, yea. I got me a whole family of Signing Time fanatics.
And you can too.
Want to win a Baby Signing Time Gift Set 1-4?
Just go to the
Signing Time Music Videos and watch a video clip. Come back and in the comments tell me what you watched….and what you loved about it!
We'll draw a winner November 15th.
Easy. Peasy.
Thank you, Rachel for helping Parker gain a voice.
Now, you think you could convince him to start walking?
Just wonderin'.
You can also find Parker hanging out at his other blog, Praying for Parker.

I met Rachel last August at a fundraiser she so graciously held for our deafblind family support group. We also had a Make A Wish child there who, like Parker, was absolutely smitten with Rachel. There wasn't a dry eye in the room when he finally got to meet her!
Great contest. I hope you get a lot of entries!
#2 - A @ 8:47 pm
I want to win I love signing time Pick me please
#3 - McKenna @ 10:34 pm
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to win these! I went over to the site and watched every single video clip. I can't wait to show Darah "Down on Leah's Farm" when she wakes up in the morning! Darah LOVES Signing Time and I think it is going to play an even more important role in our daughter we're adopting with Down syndrome from Eastern Europe!! My typical developing son also uses sign language…what a gift Rachel is to our family and so many others!!
#4 - Danette @ 10:52 pm
I would love to win these! I couldn't get the videos to work when I visited the link, but "Leah's Farm" looks like one my little man would enjoy :). He loves farm animals, especially ducks!
#5 - Rickismom @ 2:09 am
The reason you teach a child (especially a special- needs- child) to sign, is several-fold:
-it teaches them the concept of communication, and shows thenm that they can get what they need/want through communication
- it reduces frustration, thereby helping to improve behavior, by giving them a voice
- it strengthens memory skills, which in turn helps later with speech
all of these things can help your child hopefully reach the point of speaking/reading sentences with grammatical differences (plurals, pronouns, tenses, etc.) by age 7, after which learning grammer is harder
#6 - kari @ 9:35 am
Big Rachel lover in my house too. Tristan is up to 200+ plus signs and now is saying almost all those words as well. Signing really promotes speech. Tristan rarely tries to say anything he doesn't know the sign for. If I never taught him sign I doubt he would be speaking at all yet.
If you pick me I will donate the DVD's to our EI center. Unfortunately here in Quebec I was not encouraged to teach T sign and all except for one other family none of the children in Tristan's EI center are being taught sign. Maybe we can help them out
#7 - Tracy @ 10:20 am
Thank you so much for sharing your son with me through your blog! He's such a cute little man!
I just watched "Walking Through the Zoo" on the Signing Time site and it was great. I learned how to sign hippo!
#8 - Melissa @ 10:14 pm
My son Dillon just LOVES Signing Time! To be honest, I think he's got a crush on Rachel too8) We BOTH love watching the DVD'S that we do have…makes signing so easy to learn! I too unfortunatly was unable to watch the clips, but I hope one day I'll be able to see.
Thank You for the opportunity!

[...] at 5 Minutes For Special Needs there is a Signing Time [...]
#10 - Mary @ 11:21 pm
We would love to win this! I teach my kids sign language and they absolutely love Signing Time! They'd love to have this! It's really important that they learn sign cause it helps them develop their speech and now that I have concerns about my daughter's hearing, it's even more important that they learn sign. Thank you so much for offering this up!
#11 - Rachel Egbert @ 11:29 pm
Preston would love to win these!! He watched all the clips with me and our favorite was the caterpillar song! Thanks!!
#12 - Jenn K @ 11:30 pm
Down On Leah's farm is Zachs FAVORITE! I would love these videos. Emily loves them more than Zach. Its a permnate TIVOed program at our house. We could use them for trips and for Grandma's house!!
#13 - Kristine @ 11:48 pm
Signing Time is absolutely wonderful. I only wish I had known about these earlier in my daughter's speech issues but thanks to these and a wonderful speech therapy she has come a long way and is only mildly delayed compared to where she was just a few years ago. We absolutely love Signing Time and my 10 year old is also named Leah so my little one learned how to sign her sister's name right away. My absolute favorite song is Shine because I know that my little one and the ones I volunteer with will do things when they are ready to.
I am not wanting to win these just wanted to share my experience and love for them. I think you are doing a very awesome thing here.
#14 - Finding Normal @ 11:56 pm
I watched In the Water and the Caterpillar one. So cute, and not at all annoying like some kids shows (cough*most of them lately*cough).
Addison won't sit and watch a show yet, despite my efforts. She's much too busy. Noah is all about learning the signs though, and I just know one of these days she'll start because he's doing it, and he's so cool to her.
Great giveaway!
#15 - Krista @ 12:23 am
We have volumes 1 and 2… and I thought that was all there was! boy are we missing out! I'd love this, to share 1 and 2 with some other new moms and get more going on here as well!
#16 - Carey @ 12:37 am
pick me pick me! We're huge fans! Chelsea's favorite part of course is the singing. This kid can move, let me tell you! Her favorites are the baby signing time, 1 & 2, I know she would love 3 & 4!!!
#17 - Renee Garcia @ 12:42 am
OK so I totally already own these because I'm addicted to Signing Time… ok wait… my kids. Yes. My KIDS are addicted to Signing Time. Not me. Because… that would be… well… weird. Hmmm… Anyway, because my KIDS are addicted to Signing Time, I already own these DVDs. However, I have friends… and my friends have kids. I have one friend inparticular with one kid inparticular who just so HAPPENS to love Signing Time, and I'm just guessing that her new baby brother or sister who is due in February will love it, too. SO If I win I will pass the DVDs onto them. Then they'll love me as much as they love Signing Time! OK Maybe not. Crush my dreams why don't you! HA! Seriously though, I admit I didn't watch the clips, but if I do I'll be singing the songs in my dreams, and I really have other things on my agenda to dream about tonight. I will tell you that "My Teddy had a hard day" is my favorite BST song. Does that help? I cry every time I see those little kids cry. But not because I'm addicted to Signing Time. Nope. Not me.
#18 - Stephanie @ 12:44 am
I LOVE "In the Water" and so does Ralph. In fact, I blogged about Signing Time not too long ago. Ralph sits mesmerized through the videos, which we borrow from his P.T., but his hands never stop moving! As soon as the music starts the hands start freaking out. I can't wait for the day when I can distinguish one sign from another. Please pick Ralph!!
#19 - Michelle and Elliot @ 8:18 am
The song Caterpillar Dreams just brings tears to my eyes. Elliot has one ST DVD. Caterpillar Dreams and Leah’s Farm are both previewed on that particular DVD. Elliot is just enthralled with the “Caterpillar” song. When it starts to play, his face lights up like I have never seen it light up. Funny, we watch our DVD at least three times per day. Isaac is picking up on the signs too and has been “teaching” Elliot. Interestingly, Elliot will mimic Isaac and Nora more than me. And, of course, he loves Rachel the most when it comes to sign!
I love Signing Time! We need to buy more!!
Parker signing grass is too much! Love that boy of yours, Tammy!
#20 - Christine @ 8:47 am
Big Rachel lovers in our house too. John sees the tv, picks up the remote and yells at it–that's his sign for, "I want to watch Signing Time!"
We have a few episodes recorded, but we would love to win these DVDs.
I watched all the videos. I like Leah's Farm–fun music, teaches numbers, colors, animals. Love the animation too.
All of the videos were great though.
#21 - Stacey @ 9:20 am
I love the little catterpillar video! I have seen all the other ones before, I TIVO signing time! My kids love it. Even my eight year old.
#22 - Amy @ 9:36 am
OK, I admit I watched them all on the website!! We only have baby signing time 1 and Mayson loves it!!! She would sure enjoy any new ones!
#23 - Hollie @ 9:50 am
I watched Leah's Farm because it is my 8yo sons fave.
#24 - MarissasDad @ 9:53 am
I'm sure I don't qualify for the giveaway, being a contributing writer and all, but we've got volume one and we watch it almost every day.
Marissa knows, but can't make the "milk" sign, which is outstanding, as far as I am concerned!
#25 - Shannon @ Gabi's World @ 10:14 am
I love the theme song. Very cute. We don't have any of them, but I just know Gabi would love them. She picks up signs pretty quickly, and her baby brother has even learned one already.
#26 - Elaine @ 11:09 am
We would love to win a set of signing time. I've been working with my son at signing and although he enjoys watching me, he hasn't picked any up yet. This would be a great resource.
I watched some of the clips and I like that they are presented simply.
#27 - Alisha @ Izzy 'N Emmy @ 12:36 pm
We are huge Signing Time fans as well. Izzy and Emmy LOVE to sit and watch the promo disc we got during the last review. We have yet to afford any other DVD's at this time. However, I was able to find Walking Through The Zoo on YouTube a few weeks ago. OH MY GOSH! My girls love this one! Izzy especially love to sing and sign along. When I clicked over to watch the videos, that was the one we watched, again. They are so catchy and the videos are so mesmerizing for my girls.
We have asked for a few more DVD's for Christmas but we would be more than grateful if we were the lucky winners!
Thanks so much for the contest!
#28 - Amy of Bunny Rose Cottage @ 2:23 pm
Oh my goodness, this is the sweetest thing EVER! Parker you are so CUTE!! Lucky Rachael
Hugs,
Amy
#29 - sarah @ 4:16 pm
I love that the singing times videos have babies, children, real life stuff as well as cartoons, singing etc. We rented one from our library for our 18 month old, and he didn't watch a whole lot, but my 4 year old has about 15 signs already!! I'm sure my little guy will get interested soon, but I would love to have some to play as background until he does start watching!! Thanks!
#30 - Jenise @ 4:17 pm
We loved the alphabet song. My daughter is totally into her abcs right now. There is something so dynamic and energizing about those videos. The kids are so 'real', the music is lively and the colors vibrant. Awesome!
#31 - Richelle F @ 5:38 pm
I watched the Zoo song. I would love to win these. We did some signs with our first, and I would love to have this as a resource for our second child!
#32 - Jolene @ 9:13 pm
Love the fast ABC song that she does….love all the songs she sings and signs…and love that my kids love to watch the videos.
#33 - Michelle R @ 10:03 pm
We watched In the Water. My 4 year old climbed in my lap and loved it. I know his brother would too. We are teaching him sign language and his favorite sign is fish….fitting for In the Water:)
#34 - Angel @ 9:35 am
I watched "Walking Through the Zoo" on the Signing Time website. Pretty cool.
#35 - Samantha Block @ 10:57 am
I watched the caterpillar clip, which was perfect timing because my son's ASL instructor just recently taught us some outside signs like "bug", "bird", "dirt", "outside", and "tree". My son is hearing impaired with a profound communication delay, so ASL is his only means of communication. We love the Signing Times videos, it's perfect for letting him watch some TV while mommy gets some chores done!
#36 - Deb H @ 11:56 am
I can see why Parker loves them. The down on the farm is so catchy. My favorite is the catepillar one. I was telling my DD about using signs for my grandchildren as it really helps the frustration children have from not being able to express themselves. Congrats Parker and thanks Rachel for helping him learn his signs!
#37 - Sange @ 3:10 pm
We met Rachel in Aug 2007 at a performance in Michigan. It was a very hot, sunny day and she was sick with strep but you never would have guessed. She was very sweet and gave the show it all.
Plus, signing time (disc #1) taught my HOH son, his 2 signs 'stop' & 'go'!

#38 - Dree @ 5:46 pm
I watched Caterpillar Dreams. I love that it teaches signing. The video was also colorful which will keep children interested.

Leah's Farm looks great……. I really would love signing videos to help teach the little one I watch to sign… I used lots of signing when I was an ifant teacher
#43 - Aimee @ 10:43 pm
I watched Walking Through The Zoo and just adored it! I love the mix of pictures, and Rachel and her signing. I like the upbeat nature and how it would so easily draw a child in. This is something I've long wanted to try with m baby. Thank you so much for the chance to win! My fingers are crossed!
#44 - H @ 12:59 am
I can't hear videos on my computer because my sound card has went ka-put! Is there any way I can still get in the drawing? My niece just had a baby and I was telling her about people signing with their babies to help them communicate. She was thrilled at the idea but not sure how to start. I would LOVE to be able to give these to her. Thanks so much for your consideration.
#45 - Stacey @ 9:30 am
Hi, we watched walking throuhg the zoo. My daughter Tianna (27 mos with Down Syndrome) loves Signing Times. She already knows 120 signs. We would love to win these so we could donate them to our church library.
#46 - Janet Callahan @ 11:28 am
Oh wow. This is totally what we need, as it's looking like our little boy (21 weeks this week, with severe BPD) will be getting a trach before Thanksgiving, and they're expecting it to cause speech delays (though it's suspected that he's already on the path to needing speech therapy).
#47 - Monique Rizzo @ 2:15 pm
My daughter LOVES this! Especially the Caterpillar song. Thanks!
#48 - Karen Gonyea @ 2:45 pm
Leah's Farm look great

#49 - Katie @ 3:07 pm
When we first adopted my son he didn't speak at all. We borrowed the Signing Time videos from a friend, and it helped him not only learn to communicate with us, but was also a great way for our new family to sit down together and bond with each other. Sadly, as the tapes were borrowed we had to give them back, but with the new addition of our son Ethan's bio sister to our family, who comes with many of the same problems as Ethan, we would love, love, love to have these back on our home.
#50 - Constance Swearingen @ 7:07 pm
I watched "Walking thru the Zoo" I really liked the way they incorportated live action and animation into the video. I have a daughter with Downs who signed for years before learning to talk and still uses signs sometimes (when she is tired). I now want to share signing with my baby granddaughter. Please enter me. Thank you.
#51 - BQkimmy @ 9:27 pm
I didn't just watch one, I watched them all. Twice! As soon as the music started my son ran over to the computer to watch. That right there is enough to make me love these. It had his attention and he loved them. It also attracted my 14yo daughter who loves to sing and had to come over and was quickly singing the songs and signing along, showing her baby brother how to do the signs. Amazing!
#52 - C. Clemens @ 3:11 am
hi please enter me .i never watched it
#53 - Blessed with Girls @ 1:04 am
Oooohhhhh. How exciting! We got to see Rachel, Leah, and Alex at our Buddy Walk in October! We had never seen Signing Time until then since Mattie is only 8 months. We brought home the sample dvd and loved it!!! Our family learned at least 10 signs in 10 minutes. We were hoping Santa could bring Mattie the dvd's for Christmas. Please add Mattie to your list. Thanks!
#54 - Brooke Allen @ 1:38 am
We love Signing Time! I like the Walking Through The Zoo Video
#55 - Sari @ 9:02 pm
I watched Rachel's clip about caterpillars and I LOVE her! My son Samuel is 2 1/2 and has Down Syndrome so we have used her Baby Signs for over a year now and it has made communicating so much easier. I love the songs as well as the glimpses of familiar faces every now again from children with special needs… somehow it was all very comforting to me from the beginning.. my son loves her as well and starts his day with Rachel and his bottle of chocolate milk.
#56 - Jennifer M @ 2:08 am
I watched the theme song and I like that it has illustrated backgrounds with real people; I think that would keep my daughter's attention.
#57 - Linda Challen @ 3:21 am
I just bought 3 more for my niece. ABC's is another she'll love.
#58 - Kari Follett @ 3:50 pm
This looks fabulous! Keep up the good work, Parker!

#62 - Erica G @ 8:06 am
I watched Caterpillar Dreams. It is so cute. I love that she mixes real kids, song, and cartoon to the movement.
#63 - Jill Kennedy @ 8:49 pm
Thanks for offering these videos as a giveaway!! I have heard amazing things about them. My favorite thing about the clips I watched was all of the music. All 3 of my boys love to sing and dance along to any music. My oldest has learned his phone number and address by singing them, so anything with music is easier for my boys to remember.
#64 - Christy Goodwin @ 10:55 am
I just want to say that I do have a hearing impaired child and had to teach my other children to sign. We started when they were infants and it was through videos and repetitiveness of how they learned sign.
Please don't pick me for this contest I want this to go to others who will truley benefit from these videos. We already know sign:)!
#65 - Kris @ 2:53 pm
What a tremendous giveaway, my two new daughters, adopted 11-07 and 6-08 (both have Down syndrome) adore signing and learn more everyday, but these would be a Godsend for us, I know the girls would love them.

#67 - Amy L @ 4:02 am
Your little boy is adorable.
They were asking me to upgrade to flash and don't want to do that with my husband's computer…he's picky and mine isn't set up yet. But I'd say the music videos - because I imagine they are accompanied by sign.
#68 - Elizabeth M. @ 10:37 am
I watched Walking Through the Zoo. So cute! They did a good job combining the real and animation. Kids would love this!
#69 - Laura G @ 11:44 am
I couldn't view the videos (stupid dial up!), but we would love Walking Through the Zoo.
#70 - Justin @ 6:03 pm
Walking through the Zoo… I liked how it went from cartoon to real..Like the ball.. To me my 17 month old would get a kick out of that as its "surprising" to the eyes
#71 - jodi @ 7:03 pm
I don't have sound on this computer, however, I watched In The Water, and it was so easy to follow along, and the colors and pictures had me excited to keep watching. My daughter would love them. I can see why Parker enjoys them so much.
#72 - Pamela Hansen @ 10:03 pm
WOW I watched In the Water first and enjoyed it so much I had to watch them all really enjoyed Alex and Leah signing along in the Zoo one
#73 - Tami Judd @ 1:42 am
Walking through the zoo. We have a deaf 13 year old, but she lives at her school for the deaf,so her siblings are a little "behind" with the signing, this would help them SO much. they are 4 and 10 mos.
#74 - Julianne B @ 1:58 am
I am not here to win this. I am here to confirm to moms of nonverbal autistic children that teaching them to sign and use PEC cards will make a HUGE difference in their meltdowns and very well may develop a language center in the other half of their brain so they can speak. It worked for us with our autistic son. Signing is an incredible tool to help you, don't miss out on a HUGE leap forward for your child and you!
#75 - Chrysa @ 2:04 am
I watched Leah's Farm. These look like they would be fantastic. Thanks for the giveaway!
#76 - Christina @ 2:09 am

#80 - Steph @ 1:08 pm
We watched the alphabet song. My kids loved it. They know a few basic signs their dad has taught them and they really seem to enjoy signing. This would be great.
#81 - Kimberly @ 3:32 pm
We are huge signing time fans. We were able to go to a concert last month and see Rachel in person! We are sad it isn't on T.V. anymore. Somewhere there must be someone or some organization that would be willing to sponsor the show. She said it costs about 1 million a season to make.
I would love to have a baby signing time set to share with the daycare I work for. We have 32 babies and 36 toddlers. We have used signing for years and find it very useful and rewarding. My favorite song is Caterpillar Dreams. I loved seeing Lucy in this clip! The Signing Time theme song makes me smile every time. My 4 yr. old made me play it over again 4 times!

#87 - sarah b @ 10:26 pm
i like the alphabet song. start with the basics!
#88 - Mashel @ 11:49 pm
I love all of the signing time videos. We have borrowed a few from the local lending library that our therapy center has, and my twins love, love, love them. They are starting to sign, and just the start of the song "it's signing time with Alex and Leah" gets them running to the tv! I would love the entire set. I am a foster parent, and one of the babies we are trying to adopt has special needs.
