As parents, we wear many hats. We are parents, teachers, tutors, cooks, chauffeurs, mediators, health-care advocates—the list goes on. It’s a job that poses many challenges; but it also provides tremendous rewards. The hugs, kisses, and smiles are priceless!
Some days the hustle-and-bustle of our parenting gig and all our other jobs can leave us feeling a bit frazzled. And I’m guessing that lots of us place taking a little time for ourselves way down on our to-do lists.
So today I am posing a challenge to all of you. Take a little time this weekend to do something to recharge your batteries. It doesn’t have to take long, and you don’t even have to leave the house if you don’t want to. Tonight after I get home from class and tuck the kids into bed, I’m going to give myself a manicure and pedicure. I may even have a glass of wine. That might not seem like much, but it’s just the pick-me-up I need after a long week.
Once you’ve done your stress-busting activity for the week, go ahead and post it here in the comments. You might inspire another parent in need of some serious stress-busting!

Is Friday here but we are on school holidays so I think the whole week has been like a weekend.
My daily stress busting activity is to watch a DVD on my laptop while cooking / cleaning in the kitchen. That is providing I don’t need to be reading the recipe off my laptop screen.
Usually I can get through one episode of a TV show on DVD whilst cooking and cleaning up dinner. Also makes being in the kitchen more pleasant.
Once a week I try to get a chance to sit down and do a little cross stitch, but sometimes I’m too tired to focus on the needle and thread and just end up sitting there fondling my threads.
I did take your challenge and sat down last night after putting Michael to bed and watched a movie I had rented almost two weeks ago! Bonus was I actually like it; it was called “definitely, maybe”.
Thanks for the reminder to take a break.
I find daily stress-busting in exercise; but still, I need to treat myself. Thank you for the reminder.
Tomorrow after my hairstylist appointment, I’m going to take time to browse my favorite antique and thrift shops…just for me.
weekends are hard for us as our son needs supervision 24/7. does anyone have any tips for a child who doesnt’ sleep much and goes to bed at the same time as his parents and wakes up around the same time as well? i tried going to bed later but then i pay for it in the morning adn the next day.
i find i need to do my stress busters when my son is at school. but sometimes that is hard too. good reminder for us to work on it tho. not trying to criticize so i hope it doens’t come across that way.
