GFCF Party Mix

Written by Melinda

Remember eating Chex™ Party Mix as a kid? I do. It was a yummy concoction of cereal, nuts, pretzels, and bagel chips covered with a spicy-sweet topping that was addictive. This recipe can be halved or multiplied depending on how much you’d like to make at one time. Feel free to add your own spin on this recipe by adding things like dried fruit or pumpkin seeds.

Ingredients:
8 cups Gluten-Free Rice Chex™ Cereal
1 cup gluten-free pretzels (I used Glutino’s)
½ cup Mary’s Gone Crackers Twigs and Sticks (optional-use more pretzels or cereal if you like)
1 cup nuts of your choice (I used cashews and almonds)
6 Tbs. casein-free spread (I used Earth Balance)
2 Tbs. GF Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. onion powder
½ tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 250˚. In a medium bowl combine spread, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Place bowl in microwave and heat until melted.

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add melted “butter” mixture and mix until dry ingredients are coated with liquid. Place in a large baking sheet and bake for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes, until ingredients are toasty. Allow to cool completely before placing in airtight containers.

I know everyone at my house will chow down on this snack mix. Excellent, thank you.

Curious. Before placing your child on a GFCF diet, did you have any testing done? Such as for celiac disease or urine testing for opiate peptide residues? (Both of which are believed to affect behavior and development.) Yeah, I'm reading. :)

Thanks.

Great question, Meloday! None of the specialists we saw would test for celiac, but we did have the testing done for the opiate peptides. Once the results came back, we started the diet.
