Well, I got myself into a bit of trouble with this one…

Jacqui: Mommy! Guess what I draw-ded?!!?

Me: (Flashing my best super-excited grin) Tell me!

Jacqui: Moooommmmm!! Dat's not how it works! You're posed ta guess!!

Me: Oh, right … hmmmm … Bugs climbing the stairs?

(I bet you can guess how well that went over. In my defense, the horizontal lines are remarkably like the stairs she is drawing these days — and I wasn't exactly thinking about our recent music theory lessons when I answered the question as I was changing her brother's diaper at that particular
moment … )

Jacqui: Nooooooooooo!!! Itsa staff!

Me: A what?

Jacqui: A staff mom! A music note staff wif a trubble clap!

Me: Yes! Of course, yes! How silly of me — what a beautiful treble clef and what a lovely job you did with the notes too! You must be a musician and an artist!

Then off she ran to post her brilliant little picture on the refrigerator door. It wasn't until later that I had the opportunity to realize just how brilliant. Take a closer look…

There are five notes there - three whole notes and two quarter notes. Each of the notes are labeled with the correct letters: C, B, D, E, and G. The B quarter note has an accent mark over it and the G quarter note has a staccato mark under it (both marks were in our music theory lesson for the week). And finally, would you just look at that treble clef? Not only did she get the basic shape down, but she has it properly positioned, circling the "G line" like we talked about.

Huh. Guess she was paying attention — imagine that!

What about you? What has your little artist been up to lately?

Honestly, mother!

Wow, I am impressed with her ability to learn and retain the music lesson and her ability to put it on paper. Please send her this way to teach my boys…we're musically clueless.

Just forget my name…means nothing.

nice drawing, … and the imagination!

Amazing! :D I knew she drew some musical notes, but all that other stuff went right over my head! Guess I wasn't paying attention in class! (Or I just forgot it all!) Awesome job, Jaqui!!

Nice work, Jacqui! You've been learning a lot in school!! Your Mama must be a pretty good teacher, and you are obviously a very good student.

I got it all. As a piano teacher, I was blown away by it. If my student had drawn it, it would have been posted on my wall immediately. She knew the correct note names and put them in the right place. her treble clef looks awesome.
