Magic Marker Monday — Learning About Layers

"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."
~Pablo Picasso
Welcome to Magic Marker Monday! If you haven't heard about Magic Marker Monday yet, click here and then hurry right back…

We've expanded to tempura paints and have been learning some new skills:
- Taking care of our brushes — Being careful to not to submerge the entire head of the brush in paint and cleaning them after we're done.
- Taking care of our paints — Being careful not to mix them up by cleaning our brush whenever we switch colors.
- Mixing colors on a palatte — Learning how to mix up green and orange, purple and pink.
- Waiting patiently between steps in a multi-step project — Learning about layering and working our way from the background layer forward.
Yeah, all except that last one.
I confess — I gave in and resorted to speeding up the background drying process with a blow-dryer.
What can I say?
Childhood artistic enthusiasm is my kryptonite.

You've got more patience than me, that looks great.

Really pretty piece! Nice use of colors. Interesting and appealing! AND I really the list of associated tasks a child can/should learn in addition to swishing the brush. Every child.

Love the artwork! We were inspired to try our own project this week (and just got around to posting about it). Hope I linked it correctly…
