Hug Therapy

Written by Melody

Let me be honest.  Recently tiredness, grumpiness and the forget-it-not-now-let-me-plop-on-the-sofa dumps have ruled my spirit.  What can I say, some days you need a hug like a fish needs water.  You feel as though you might collapse completely without one quiet moment wrapped in a gentle embrace of love. Then at an unexpected moment…in an unexpected way…it comes…

As my son, Wil, and I meandered around the yard talking about this and that, he paused and looked upward.  I paused.  He turned to me and said…

"Mom, you're as beautiful as the sky" and he quietly resumed his stroll.

I felt my heart swell.

My lips were silent.

I began walking, caught up with Wil and filled my arms with hugging him.

And everything was all better.

What precious little moments have hugged you?

Please share in comments. Also, feel free to leave a link to one of your feel-good blog posts.  There is no such thing as too much happiness or inspiration, and it will leave a sweet reserve for us to return to on days when things are not so feel-good.

Melody can be found writing here at 5MFSN every Tuesday in addition to hosting Special Exposure Wednesday. She can also be found at Slurping Life and what i think.

Yup, I'm that little black storm cloud over in the corner!
Cheers

This is so incredibly sweet. I've been having one of those not-so-good, totally-stressed-out days and this really lifts my spirits. I think I will try a little hug therapy when my little guy gets home!

Awww, that's just adorable! What a sweetheart.

My son Jackson will sometimes pray for me at mealtimes: "And bless Mommy that she will feel better and be happy."

Jackson frequently says, "Mommy, I'll miss you." It always touches me, as I leave to go to a rehearsal or appointment and leave the kids with a sitter or my husband. Actually, he'll even do it at night when I put him to bed. "I'll miss you, Mommy. I'll see you in the morning."

Beautiful. they really do have a way of knowing when we need those soul-nourishing moments the most!

So beautiful! I think it's those tender moments that make the rest of this worthwhile!

Myah will come into my room in the morning, she'll stretch up on her toes so she can put her cheek on mine. She leaves her cheek on mine for a while, and sometimes she'll sign 'Mom' and say, "Ma ma" in he tiny voice while she is still laying on me. I feel her love and I live for this.

Thank you for such an encouraging post!

Those special moments are true blessings and if we could only bottle them up.

HOW did I not know this site exists? I am the mom of 4–two via adoption. One of my kids has Down Syndrome, one was a preemie and is developmentally delayed and the other two are my anything but typical "typicals".

Anyway, my story isn't quite as heartwarming as yours…but my two year old (who just learned to walk a few weeks ago and has recently started making progress developmentally) found a tube of paint and dumped it all over the carpet. The tears in my eyes weren't ones of anger–those came later–but of wonder as my two year old was ACTING LIKE A TWO YEAR OLD! It really is those moments that you have to take a step back and realize that no matter how small it seems, we need to celebrate the progress that our little ones work so hard for (preferably your celebration will be without yellow paint….)

I have three children, the youngest with a global developmental delay. I have good and bad days, and I wrote about one of those wonderful, feel-good moments at my blog:

That is soo sweet! Thanks for sharing, I love reading about those uplifting moments.

I recently wrote about one of my 7-yr-old sons making up a song for his 3-yr-old brother, who was in the midst of a meltdown:

Even though it was hard to hear over the screaming, it was really something to hear his sweet little voice, calmly singing and trying to soothe his brother.

The storm clouds help us appreciate the sunshine, Maddy. Thank you for being there. Hoping tomorrow it's someone else's turn to be the cloud.
Beautiful photo Melody - perfectly matched to the story.

Those are all the little, yet wonderfully huge, moments that make my day. Thank you all for sharing.

Rebecca, so glad you found us.

Promise I'll pop over and read these blog links everyone…just not tonight. Need sleep…snzzzzzz
