Flannel Boards and Stories

Want to inspire imaginative play and develop fine motor skills for your toddler or preschooler? Need a great tool for grasping and holding your child’s attention for a story or to introduce a new skill? How about a quiet yet engaging travel companion?

Flannel boards to the rescue my friends.

You can purchase flannel boards. But they can be simply and easily made. Your child will love to help out too!

Two Cups of Coffee shows us how to make flannel boards using cork boards or chalk boards.

While over at Plum Pudding you can find the directions for individual flannel boards.

I plan on making one of these to take with us on doctor trips and hospital stays! So easy!

I keep my flannel board stories inside page protectors contained within a 3 ring binder.

Although I am planning on switching out the page protectors for large Ziploc bags. I can close the Ziplocs and write the name of the flannel board story right on the front!

Parker’s favorite flannel board story is 5 Green and Speckled Frogs.

You are so wonderfully organized with your units for Parker. Hop a flight to my house and whip us into shape, please.

When they were younger flannel boards were a huge success with my boys. Parker demonstrates his school work so well…and adorably.

Could you possibly be any more creative? What a fab idea, Tammy. I do think that I have some old flannel things that Nora used years ago. I’ll be getting those out and making a board!

Happy day to you, sweet Parker. Your momma rocks, and so do you! xo

I love the idea/instructions for making individual flannel boards and I’m all set to make my own. Jenna LOVES stuff like this. Magnet boards are great too.

Jenna also loves the Raffi song “Five Green and Speckled Frogs” so I fell in love with your froggie board & pieces and think the pics of Parker are adorable.

    Thanks for sharing!

I just LOVED using my flannel boards for my 2 older disabled boys (and all the other kids too). I plan on using it with the twins when they get a bit older as right now they just like to eat the pieces. LOL

Great boards. And even more, I like how you have them organized in a notebook, so they are portable, and they won’t get away from you.
Thanks for the great ideas, and the cute pics of Parker!

oh, oh, oh! I’d completely forgotten that I have all the stuff to make a couple of these. They’ll be great to tide the kids over until school starts and then they’ll be a great Quiet Time activity or during church. I’m so glad you wrote about these today :)

It tickles my heart to see Parker signing. Just this weekend Haylee, my nephew and I played a signing game. We call it You are a and then you have to give a silly color animal name. It teaches our kids colors and animal but signing at first.

Example…. You are a Blue zebra.

But you have to speak and sign the whole sentence.

Sorry Just had to share but again I do love to see parker signing.

Using internet is simple as hell. But I can tell y ou right now, it can be very hard, if you are the first time user.
So, first thing I suggest – open the Explorer, and type in the address you like.
You’ll get there really fast, it depends on your connection speed.
    Good luck.
