This is so true. So many of the mothers I’ve met who have autistic children totally identify themselves with the disability and lose themselves. It’s frightening to me. Though I have two autistic children and another son with disabilities, I have many other hats to wear, and I wear each of them just as proudly. There’s no shame in taking time to create yourself as well.

This resonates with me. I get so tired of people asking me if I’ve found the “answer” to what’s best for my son, what his diagnosis is, etc. I am so weary of that question–particularly when it comes from family members.
