This Just In

Parker and I give two big thumbs UP for the University of Michigan’s bicycle program.

Did you know that just 10% of kids with Down syndrome learn to ride a bike. And I didn’t know that autistic children have similar issues when facing this challenge.

You can read the entire article at Freep.com

Then you can head on over to Lose the Training Wheels.com to find a bike camp near you.

Tammy and Parker give two big thumbs down to the whole idea that autism is simply a matter of bad parenting skills.

I mean, really. If you parents of autistic children would just step up to the plate and whack the bejeebers out of your kid when they experience their next meltdown, the problem would be solved!

Mother of Confusion has a very informative post on this subject. Go. Read. Come back and tell us what you think.

Sometimes turning the other cheek actually helps perpetuate a very prejudiced and discriminatory myth.

And, finally…….I don’t know about you, but 102 degree weather always makes me think of Christmas.

Yeah. I know. I have issues.

But I also have some pretty creative and frugal ideas.

Like a FREE download for an adorable handmade pin cushion.

What a great way to use those odds and ends of re-purposed and vintage fabric you’ve been saving.

And what is a great handmade gift without a great handmade tag?

HP will blow your socks off with their vintage handcrafted product labels.

Now, go do some reading. Some thinking. And a whole lot of creating.

I am the mother of 5 wonderful kids. My youngest, Parker, is a medically fragile blessing with Down's Syndrome. I am @ParkerMama on Twitter.

I was on my off the computer and then I began following your links. :)

LOVE the bike program. My Wil is struggling with letting go of the tw due to CP. In fact, he has to have special wheels. Wish this was near us.

Of course, I spouted in at the autism post. Don’t get me started.

And that pin cushion is adorable. I need a sewing machine. Really.

Our local ASA was thinking of bringing in a bike program that travels to your area for a week and works with volunteers. I hope they are able to swing it next year!

Those are awesome links! I’ve got to find out if they have any near us. My 6 yr old with autism just can’t get it. He has very poor muscle tone and just isn’t understanding or able to pedal well.

But ya know, it’s really good to hear that it’s my husband’s fault. All this time I’ve just been indulging meltdowns and inabilities because I seriously enjoy them or I’m just too lazy to do anything about it. But now life is going to change. I just need to get my husband to smack him around a bit, right?

*sigh* the saddest part about the Savage issues are that there really are people out there that think this way. Ignorance is not always bliss!

I am not even sure how I found your blog, but I am glad I did. My oldest son has Autism and Sensory issues and hearing loss. My younger son has Sensory issues. I am going to look into the bike program, though we live in FL. My older son has motor planning issues and cannot get on the bike without help. Thank you!

“Tammy and Parker give two big thumbs down to the whole idea that autism is simply a matter of bad parenting skills.”

I cannot believe the ignorance and arogance in people who truly believe that. So terribly hurtful. Although Nick isn’t Autistic he has struggled with some of the issues many A’s do and I would get so much “oh, he’ll grow out of it.” and “oh, just give him time he’ll start talking.”

And when I’d insist that he has problems and we’re doing the right thing by taking care of it they’d (family) give me the look.

    PEOPLE!
