We haven't started the after dinner thing yet, but we have been making sure to talk as soon as Michael is in bed, and it's definitely a good thing.

Movies are wonderful too - only three more weeks until Star Trek!!

I hope you get lots of responses next week (this 'typical' therapist wants to know, too).

I think it is common for adults to find time to talk without children present. Whatever it takes (legally) to do that it is worth the effort. Everyone in a family benefits where the adults have a good relationship.

20[+] years ago we used to go out to watch a film on a Thursday night and hold hands in the darkness.

Things have been a little overwhelming in the intervening years but we have started to try and go out on a Thursday evening again to watch a 'movie.'

When we set out I am grumpy as everything is compacted, home work for the week to finish, getting ready for sharing at school, packed lunches......everything squished into a shorter space = very stressful. But an hour into the film I start to relax. As we drive home knowing that the children are in bed, asleep and happy, we can chat.

Thank you for raising this very important survival tactic.
Best wishes
