World Down Syndrome Day

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day.

On March 21st, 2009, World Down Syndrome Day will mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Professor Jerome Lejeune’s discovery of the extra copy of chromosome 21 which causes Down Syndrome.

3 copies of the 21st chromosome. T21. Get it?

Down Syndrome organizations around the world this year will pay tribute to the pioneering work of Professor Lejeune and celebrate the tremendous advances in the care and social welfare of people with Down Syndrome over the past fifty years.

The celebrating will be happening over here at 5MFSN too. We’ll have a Mr. Linky set up for those of you blessed with a little something extra in your lives to link to YOUR World Down Syndrome Day post, pictures and events.

Hosted by your favorite Dude with a ‘Tude:

I love Parker’s hair and facial expression in this one! Did you gel his hair or is it just wet? He looks really cute.
