“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
~Pablo Picasso
Welcome to Magic Marker Monday! If you haven’t heard about Magic Marker Monday yet, click here and then hurry right back…

I think I have mentioned before that we’ve been working our way through a kindergarten art book by Artistic Pursuits as part of our homeschool curriculum. And I’ll just mention again that we l-o-v-e this book!
A few weeks ago we began working through some lessons on sculpture and the first lesson involved paper animal sculptures. The instructions in the book were really easy to follow and we had such a great time that we made a whole zoo — including the zebra above, a lion, a giraffe, a seal and a…
Um… a Niki.

A sculpture of our pet akita, Niki, who died almost four years ago. Whom we must periodically grieve with an appropriate level of drama to emphasize just how drear life has become in a dog-less abode and how drastically life would improve should the parental-types around here finally cave to the resident six-year-old’s relentless campaign for a new puppy.
Don’t get me wrong, I miss her too… but wow. The paper version is so much easier to clean up after, you know?
Want to try a paper safari of your own? This cute giraffe pattern over at Danielle’s Place will get you pointed in the right direction on how to make your own zoo filled with paper animals. While not exactly like the pattern we used, it’s close — hope you have fun!

Our grandma’s pony, Tina, died a few years ago, and the boys still shed tears about it. “Mom, I just miss Tina sooooooooo much!” They know where she’s buried, they made Grandma hold a funeral for her, they regularly visit her grave, the whole shebang. They sure loved that pony. Very precious.
That is really cute. We especially like 3-D and I imagine we might just have a bit of luck with that now that they’re a bit older.
I also know what you mean about a dog. We’ve just caved now that my daughter is 11 and she’s been clamouring since birth for a puppy!
Cheers
Those turned out so cute!
These are just ADORABLE!!! LOVE these projects and thanks so much for the pattern!
